VALLEY GLEN – The week of August 24, 2018, Councilmember Krekorian, joined by the LA Department of Transportation and community members, flipped the switch to activate a new crosswalk signal at the intersection of Oxnard Street and Varna Avenue, a vital intersection on the route to Erwin Street Elementary School. The new signal and crosswalk will protect pedestrians on this major East Valley thoroughfare, which sees upwards of 27,000 vehicles a day.

After the LADOT conducted several engineering studies, the department determined that a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon would best suit this location to increase visibility and pedestrian safety. This crosswalk was made possible because of funding secured by Councilmember Krekorian to promote his Vision Zero goals and LADOT safety projects in Council District 2.
