Council President Paul Krekorian, Recreation and Parks Department General Manager Jimmy Kim, and members of the Laurel Grove Neighborhood Association, led by Association President Diann Corral, broke ground May 15, 2023 for long-awaited renovations at Laurel Grove Park in North Hollywood. The playground equipment and other amenities at the park were installed over 20 years ago and have long been in need of restoration or replacement. Two successive fiscal crises, the Great Recession and the COVID pandemic forced drastic cuts in parks maintenance, but as Budget and Finance Chair in 2021, Krekorian secured record funding for deferred maintenance and improvements throughout the city.

Anticipated improvements include:

  • Walking and wheelchair trails and outdoor fitness stations
  • New playground equipment with safe and clean resilient surfacing and shade
  • New group picnic area with picnic tables, hydration station, pet fountain, shade canopy and game tables
  • New butterfly garden
  • New shrubs, ground cover and visually pleasing hedge plantings
  • New LED lighting.
