SUMMARY:Wildlife Workshop
DESCRIPTION:LA Animal Services will begin hosting Wildlife Workshops for the community starting this April through December at the City Animal Shelters throughout Los Angeles. Wildlife staff specialists will share educational information with residents on how to handle wild animal situations they may encounter in their neighborhood and help address concerns. \nWildlife live throughout the Los Angeles area and can usually be scene year round. Normally\, wildlife pose no threat to humans and keep their distance. However\, if they have access to food\, water and cover\, these animals may continue to return to certain areas and begin to lose their fear of humans which can potentially lead to them becoming aggressive. \nThe LA Animal Services Wildlife Division works to aid City residents in rectifying wildlife problems in their community and some of the uneasiness they may face with these animals. The program provides on-site evaluations\, education on methods of exclusion\, deterrents and discouragement of wildlife forays into urban neighborhoods. Wildlife are common and an important integral part of the ecosystem and circle of life. Mindful consideration of precautions and basic knowledge of wild animal behavior will create a manageable co-habitation between the community and local wildlife. \nResidents will learn all of this and more at the presentations. SUMMARY:Anonymous Gun Buyback
DESCRIPTION:The City of Los Angeles’ anonymous Gun Buyback is an initiative led by GRYD in partnership with the LAPD. Launched in the spring of 2009\, the Gun Buyback marks the beginning of the City of Los Angeles summer violence reduction strategy. The GRYD office aligned its outreach efforts on the Gun Buyback initiative to specifically focus its outreach to areas within the City that have the highest propensity for violence. \nHow It Works\nOn Saturday\, May 13\, 2017\, there are two Gun Buyback locations located within the City. In exchange for surrendering a firearm\, an individual receive a gift card. \n8am-1pm: Participants drive through the collection line\, firearms are inspected and classified Participants then completed a survey and received a gift card upon departure. \nThe amount per firearm is up to $100 for all handguns\, rifles\, and shotguns surrendered and up to $200 for assault weapons as classified by the State of California.

Free beverages and snacks are available while supplies last. All exhibits will be related to City services and sustainability. Join us for earth-friendly fun in a festival setting! There is no charge for admission\, and all are welcome. \nOver 50 exhibitors\nThe exhibitor area is so much fun\, you won’t even know you’re learning! All of our exhibitors are either government or non-profit. There will be nothing for sale\, but there are plenty of giveaways! Learn how to use recycled water at home\, what items can go in the blue recycling bin\, where to get free mulch\, how to sign up for a free street tree\, and much more! \nCity vehicles to explore\nThis is what the kids have been waiting for! LASAN brings out one of each truck type for kids to explore. Honk horns\, operate the controls\, and see what it’s like to be a collections worker! Additionally\, other City departments will bring vehicles for kids to explore.
