SUMMARY:LACMA Art Class at the Library: Vision and Transcendence\, Mask Making
DESCRIPTION:June 26\, 2 pm – 3 pm\nNorth Hollywood Region Library\n5211 Tujunga Ave.\nNorth Hollywood\, CA 91601 \nJoin the Los Angeles County Museum of Art for free art workshops for adults at the North Hollywood Library. The exhibition “The Inner Eye: Vision and Transcendence in African Arts” looks at various examples of African masks and how they possess different characteristics and functions. The class will look at the eyes and gazes in masks and consider their function. Participants will make their own mask with air-dry clay and will add features\, patterns and textures to enhance the mask’s character and identity.

SUMMARY:Wildlife Workshop
DESCRIPTION:LA Animal Services will begin hosting Wildlife Workshops for the community starting this April through December at the City Animal Shelters throughout Los Angeles. Wildlife staff specialists will share educational information with residents on how to handle wild animal situations they may encounter in their neighborhood and help address concerns. \nWildlife live throughout the Los Angeles area and can usually be scene year round. Normally\, wildlife pose no threat to humans and keep their distance. However\, if they have access to food\, water and cover\, these animals may continue to return to certain areas and begin to lose their fear of humans which can potentially lead to them becoming aggressive. \nThe LA Animal Services Wildlife Division works to aid City residents in rectifying wildlife problems in their community and some of the uneasiness they may face with these animals. The program provides on-site evaluations\, education on methods of exclusion\, deterrents and discouragement of wildlife forays into urban neighborhoods. Wildlife are common and an important integral part of the ecosystem and circle of life. Mindful consideration of precautions and basic knowledge of wild animal behavior will create a manageable co-habitation between the community and local wildlife. \nResidents will learn all of this and more at the presentations. SUMMARY:Anonymous Gun Buyback
DESCRIPTION:The City of Los Angeles’ anonymous Gun Buyback is an initiative led by GRYD in partnership with the LAPD. Launched in the spring of 2009\, the Gun Buyback marks the beginning of the City of Los Angeles summer violence reduction strategy. The GRYD office aligned its outreach efforts on the Gun Buyback initiative to specifically focus its outreach to areas within the City that have the highest propensity for violence. \nHow It Works\nOn Saturday\, May 13\, 2017\, there are two Gun Buyback locations located within the City. In exchange for surrendering a firearm\, an individual receive a gift card. \n8am-1pm: Participants drive through the collection line\, firearms are inspected and classified Participants then completed a survey and received a gift card upon departure. \nThe amount per firearm is up to $100 for all handguns\, rifles\, and shotguns surrendered and up to $200 for assault weapons as classified by the State of California.
