SUMMARY:Be an Informed L.A. Renter Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Free Workshops: October 2017 \nThe Los Angeles Housing & Community Investment Department (HCIDLA) believes in the importance of informing tenants about their rights and responsibilities\, as well as resources available to them as renters. This workshop will focus on becoming a well–informed renter and provide information and handouts with tips on how to build a positive landlord/tenant relationship. Recent changes in the law\, such as the Tenant Buy Out Notification program\, will also be covered. \nLearn how the Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO) affects you and how the HCIDLA ensures the safety and habitability of rental units through the Systematic Code Enforcement Program (SCEP). \nThe RSO generally covers rental units built before October 1978\, with the exception of one single-family dwelling on a single parcel. Landlords are required to register all RSO units annually and pay a fee to cover program costs. \nThe workshops will be presented by HCIDLA’s Rent Stabilization and Code Enforcement staff along with the Apartment Association of Greater Los Angeles (AAGLA) and will focus on tenant education. \nRSVP: Online or at 213-928-9075 \n(Free Admission\, seating is limited) \nIf you need translation\, please request it at least three days in advance of the workshop.

These representative will give an opening presentation\, participate in question and answer and close with tangible activity recommendations for engagement in their area of service. \nDay Two: Site Visits – Section 2 will provide a firsthand engagement opportunity for participants. Attendees will visit a Permanent Supportive Housing Campus\, Coordinated Entry System and Homeless Family Service System Intake Site and a Transitional Living Facility. During this portion of the CIVIC U participants will be able to see the facilities speak with service providers and learn about the processes that move homeless persons into sustainable housing. \nDay Three: Recap and Planning “In the final section of the DOC CIVIC U the participants will recap and share\, feedback\, learning and impact of the previous days. To culminate\, each congregation represented will create an action plan to implement within their faith organization. This strategy will be designed for the capacity of the congregation\, focused on their geographic service area and based on an identified population and service model.

During the meetings\, Angelenos will have the opportunity to provide input on the project’s options and design concepts. \nLA River Valley Greenway Community Meeting\nTuesday\, October 17\, 6 pm to 7:30 pm\nValley Plaza Branch Library\n12311 Vanowen Street\nNorth Hollywood\, CA 91605 \nThe LA River Valley Greenway project will provide nearly 13 miles of new bike and walking paths along the LA River in the San Fernando Valley to complement and connect already existing paths. The city provided three million dollars to the project through park funds from Councilmembers Krekorian\, Blumenfield\, Ryu and Martinez. These funds will help complete the project’s design and allow it to be shovel-ready for a contiguous bikeway and walkway along the river. \nThe project area encompasses San Fernando Valley from Vanalden Avenue to Forest Lawn Drive/Zoo Drive.

DESCRIPTION:The Department of City Planning Staff will be in attendance at the (10/12) Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Council Meeting to briefly present on the Processes and Procedures Ordinance. We hope you are able to attend. The meeting begins at 6:30 and the location is: \nSherman Oaks Hospital\nDoctor’s Conference Room\n4929 Van Nuys Boulevard\nSherman Oaks\, 91403 \nThe proposed ordinance comprehensively reorganizes the administrative provisions of the Zoning Code. Currently\, there are over 100 different processes\, which are being proposed to be consolidated down to about 50. The draft ordinance would be the second major deliverable from re:code; the first was the R1 Variation Zones (new single family zones) that went into effect earlier this year. For more information about the ordinance\, please see attached FAQs. \nPlease note that the public comment period for the draft ordinance is open until November 7\, 2017. The ordinance is tentatively scheduled for the December 14th City Planning Comission meeting.
