SUMMARY:Waste Not: Opening Celebration
DESCRIPTION:This will be the unveiling of the Contemporary Museum of Temporary Containers. We worked with the local teens and senior groups\, and collected nearly 1500 single-use food containers from the families who use the Valley Plaza Park in North Hollywood. We will make a sprawling display of the community’s collection\, spanning the north side of the park. The containers are sorted and colored according to size and material. The project aims to make banal food container something worthy of closer viewing\, while contemplating creative reuse and the limits of sustainability and recycling at a critical juncture of environmental responsibility. \nLearn about the state of recycling and zero waste from experts. Family friendly and accessible. RSVP appreciated. \nCURRENT:LA puts a new spin on traditional international triennials by democratizing the way people access art. The initiative shifts art away from the museum environment and places temporary public art projects and public programs in the neighborhoods of Los Angeles where residents and visitors live\, work\, and play. \nCURRENT:LA uses contemporary art as a way to deepen connections on issues affecting Los Angeles and other global cities to inspire civic discourse on those particular issues. \nCURRENT:LA is funded by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

DESCRIPTION:LA Animal Services is teaming up once again with NBC4/KNBC and Telemundo 52 Los Angeles/KVEA for the return of the award-winning pet adoption campaign Clear the Shelters™. On Saturday\, August 17\, at all six LA Animal Services Centers adoption fees will be reduced to $20 for all dogs and puppies 4 years old or younger. Dogs 5 years and older will have fees waived thanks to The Pet Care Foundation\, and cat and kitten adoption fees are waived thanks to a generous grant from the ASPCA. \nLA Animal Services pets are vaccinated\, spayed or neutered\, and microchipped. While dog adoption fees are reduced\, there will be a $20 dog license fee applied for LA City residents for dogs 4 months and older. Adopters will need to provide a valid government issued identification card when adopting. \n“Since we launched Clear the Shelters five years ago\, the adoption drive’s unprecedented success has become an integral part of the community every year\,” said NBC4 President and General Manager Steve Carlston. “NBC4 looks forward to continuing the tradition of helping alleviate the animal overpopulation at shelters and offering affordable adoptions to all our viewers.”
