July 20, 2024 community members and Los Angeles City leaders came together in North Hollywood for an unveiling and rededication of the statue of the legendary aviator, Amelia Earhart. One of North Hollywood’s most iconic residents, Amelia Earhart was the first woman aviator to fly the Atlantic Ocean, among many other accomplishments.

More than a pilot; she was a pioneer, a trailblazer, and an inspiration to countless individuals. Her fearless spirit and her contributions to aviation have left an indelible mark on history. Earhart was tragically lost at sea in 1937 during an around-the-world flight.

This bronze sculpture was created by Ernest Shelton, and dedicated in January 1971, recently damaged in an automobile accident. Thanks to RLA Conservation for refurbishing and refreshing this monument for the community to once again enjoy and appreciate. Thank you to Council President Paul Krekorian , LA Parks, and Felicia Filer, Director of DCA’s Public Art Division.
